J.R Martinez and Karina Smirnoff won the Dancing with the Stars competition. It was a day filled with suspense.

Awaiting the results was excruciating.

After so many weeks. Karina said I think I lost my voice….I was screaming.

I normally do not watch dancing but the excitement got to me.

What attracted me to the event was the fact that people can accomplish what they set their

minds to if they commit to persevere. And persevere they did.

Perseverance according to the experts is the ability to continually move toward the achievement

of a goal or objective. it is one of the most important attributes of successful people.

Passion, my friends is what drives perseverance. It is the state of mind that creates the

incredible will to persevere. The best way to think of it is this: Imagine a rocketship shooting into

space. Perseverance is the rocket ship and passion is the fuel. Your rocketship will never take

off into space without any fuel. Imagine how many steps they took to practice, over and over

again. That is what success is all about.

Said army veteran and actor J.R. Martinez: "It's amazing. We've all been putting over three months

of work into this. To be able to hold that trophy up was a tremendous honour."

The whole process is life changing. Everyone is watching.

So remember persevere and be passionate.

I wish you well

A pleasant day to all of you. A friend of mine posted this today and I feel compelled to share. Some of you may have it already. Great reminder of what we all should be doing.

Ready to Give Up? 50 Things You SHOULD Give Up… Starting Today.

Starting today…

1. Give up trying to be perfect. – The real world doesn’t reward perfectionists, it rewards people who get things done.

2. Give up comparing yourself to others. – The only person you are competing against is yourself.

3. Give up dwelling on the past or worrying too much about the future. – Right now is the only moment guaranteed to you. Right now is life. Don’t miss it.

4. Give up complaining. – Do something about it.

5. Give up holding grudges. – Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.

6. Give up waiting. – What we don’t start today won’t be finished by tomorrow. Knowledge and intelligence are both useless without action.

7. Give up lying. – In the long-run the truth always reveals itself. Either you own up to your actions or your actions will ultimately own you.

8. Give up trying to avoid mistakes. – The only mistake that can truly hurt you is choosing to do nothing simply because you’re too scared to make a mistake.

9. Give up saying, “I can’t.” – As Henry Ford put it, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right.”

10. Give up trying to be everything to everyone. – Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but their world. Start small. Start now.

11. Give up thinking you’re not ready. – Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first.

12. Give up setting small goals for yourself. – Many people set small goals because they’re afraid to fail. Ironically, setting these small goals is what makes them fail.

13. Give up trying to do everything by yourself. – You are the sum of the people you spend the most time with. If you work together, you will be far more capable and powerful than you ever could have been alone.

14. Give up buying things you don’t need. – Manage your money wisely so your money does not manage you. Do not spend to impress others. Do not live life trying to fool yourself into thinking wealth is measured in material objects.

15. Give up blaming others for your troubles. – The extent to which you can live your dream life depends on the extent to which you take responsibility for your life. When you blame others for what you’re going through, you deny responsibility – you give others power over that part of your life.

16. Give up making mountains out of molehills. – One way to check if something is worth mulling over is to ask yourself this question: “Will this matter in one year’s time? Three years? Five years? If not, then it’s not worth worrying about.

17. Give up trying to live up to the expectations of others. – Work on it for real and exceed your own expectations. Everything else will fall into place.

18. Give up the ‘easy street’ mentality. – There is too much emphasis on finding a ‘quick fix’ in today’s society. For example taking diet pills to lose weight instead of exercising and eating well. No amount of magic fairy dust replaces diligent, focused, hard work.

19. Give up making promises you can’t keep. – Don’t over-promise. Over-deliver on everything you do.

20. Give up letting your thoughts and feelings bottle up inside. – People are not mind readers. They will never know how you feel unless you tell them.

21. Give up beating around the bush. – Say what you mean and mean what you say. Communicate effectively.

22. Give up avoiding change. – However good or bad a situation is now, it will change. That’s the one thing you can count on. So embrace change and realize that change happens for a reason. It won’t always be easy or obvious at first, but in the end it will be worth it.

23. Give up your sense of entitlement. – Nobody is entitled to anything in this world. We are all equal. We breathe the same air. We get what we give. We get what we earn.

24. Give up waiting until the last minute. – Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.

25. Give up being dramatic. – Stay out of other people’s drama and don’t needlessly create your own.

26. Give up being anti-athletic. – Get your body moving! Simply take a long, relaxing walk.

27. Give up junk food. – You are what you eat.

28. Give up eating as a means of entertainment. – Don’t eat when you’re bored. Eat when you’re hungry.

29. Give up foolish habits that you know are foolish. – Don’t text and drive. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t smoke. Etc.

30. Give up relationships with people who bring you down. – Saying “no” to right people gives you the time and resources required to say “yes” to right opportunities. Spend time with nice people who are smart, driven and likeminded.

31. Give up being shy. – Network with people. Meet new people. Ask questions. Introduce yourself.

32. Give up worrying about what others think of you. – Unless you’re trying to make a great first impression (job interview, first date, etc.), don’t let the opinions of others stand in your way. What they think and say about you isn’t important. What is important is how you feel about yourself.

33. Give up trying to control everything. – Life is an unpredictable phenomenon. No matter how good or bad things seem right now, we can never be 100% certain what will happen next. So do you best with what’s in front of you and leave the rest to the powers above you.

34. Give up doing the same thing over and over again. – In order to grow, you must expand your horizons and break free of your comfort zone. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.

35. Give up following the path of least resistance. – Life is not easy, especially when you plan on achieving something worthwhile. Don’t find the easy way out. Do something extraordinary.

36. Give up persistent multi-tasking. – Do one thing at a time and do it right.

37. Give up thinking others are luckier than you. – The harder you work, the luckier you will become.

38. Give up filling every waking moment with commitments and activities. – It’s okay to be alone. It’s okay to do nothing sometimes. Think. Relax. Breathe. Be.

39. Give up making emotional decisions. – Don’t let your emotions trump your intelligence. Slow down and think things through before you make any life-changing decisions.

40. Give up doing the wrong things just because you can get away with it. – Just because you can get away with something doesn’t mean you should do it. Think bigger. Keep the end in mind. Do what you know in your heart is right.

41. Give up focusing on what you don’t want to happen. – Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. If you awake every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen in your life today, and you pay close attention, you’ll often find that you’re right.

42. Give up taking yourself so seriously. – Few others do anyway. So enjoy yourself and have a little fun while you can.

43. Give up spending your life working in a career field you’re not passionate about. – Life is too short for such nonsense. The right career choice is based on one key point: Finding hard work you love doing. So if you catch yourself working hard and loving every minute of it, don’t stop. You’re on to something big. Because hard work ain’t hard when you concentrate on your passions.

44. Give up thinking about the things you don’t have. – Appreciate everything you do have. Many people aren’t so lucky.

45. Give up doubting others. – People who are determined do remarkable things. Remember, the one who says it can’t be done should never interrupt the one doing it.

46. Give up fussing with every beauty product on the market. – Good looks attracts the eyes. Personality attracts the heart. Be proud to be you. That’s when you’re beautiful.

47. Give up trying to fit in. – Don’t mold yourself into someone you’re not. Be yourself. Oftentimes, the only reason they want you to fit in is that once you do they can ignore you and go about their business.

48. Give up trying to be different for the sake of being different. – Nonconformity for the sake of nonconformity is conformity. When people try too hard to be different, they usually end up being just like everyone else who is trying to be different. Once again, be yourself.

49. Give up trying to avoid risk. – There’s no such thing as ‘risk free.’ Everything you do or don’t do has an inherent risk.

50. Give up putting your own needs on the back burner. – Yes, help others, but help yourself too. If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, that moment is now.

And remember, mistakes make us human, failures help us grow, hope keeps us going and love is the reason we’re alive. So keep learning, loving and living. Never give up on yourself…

I hope this inspired you as much as it did me!

Best,

Fighting With What Is

People have a tendency to be in opposition to “what is”. Often times we lean towards “what we think should be” instead of simply accepting “what is”, which is the reality of the moment.

We mistake our susceptibility to hold on to an elusive alternate reality as our suffering. We want so much for our lives to be different from our present lot that we use it as if it is a dramatic plot point in our life story. This is actually just ridiculous. It is as stupid as saying, “Pigs should fly.”

Different Reality

You might say that you certainly don’t think such thoughts. On the contrary, you probably think a lot of these thoughts on a daily basis – “I should have been a…”, “The neighbors should be more…”, “My partner should…”, “If only things were more like…” – and these probably linger in your mind.

The danger of wanting reality to be different is that it is pointless. You are only creating a stressful situation for yourself. “What is” already is and there is no merit in arguing with the Now.

Fighting with “What is” will get you nowhere. Putting emphasis on wishing for an alternate reality in your mind over accepting the reality is ultimately counterproductive. If you say, “I should not have wasted money on that,” nothing will change but it creates worry and negative energy that would weigh you down. It’s like ramming your head against a brick wall – the wall won’t budge anyway, so why allow yourself to be injured?

Accepting Reality

You don’t have to change “What is”. You would not be able to anyway. Accepting reality will instead allow you to move forward. It creates enough elbow room for you to work your way to a better “what is” in the future. By accepting the reality that you’ve wasted money, you can now say, “What can I do now to create more wealth?”

You do not necessarily condone your current circumstance by accepting “what is”; you are just giving up your mind’s resistance which is ultimately futile. It takes a conscious effort to accept reality because our tendency for drama, to linger in friction with “what is”, has become an unhealthy habit for most of us. It is all about letting go of what we cannot have.

Hanging on to the false hope of changing things now and fighting with “what is” – will always be a losing battle. Accepting “what is”, letting reality be, is not only the proper thing to do but is the first step towards having success.

I wish you well

"Wait a moment," Socrates replied, "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."

'Triple filter?" asked the acquaintance.

"That's right," Socrates continued, "Before you talk to me about Diogenes let's take a moment to filter what you're going to say. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "Actually I just heard about it."

"All right," said Socrates, "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about Diogenes something good?"

"No, on the contrary…"

"So," Socrates continued, "You want to tell me something about Diogenes that may be bad, even though you're not certain it's true?"

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed. Socrates continued, "You may still pass the test though, because there is a third filter, the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about Diogenes going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "If what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even useful, why tell it to me or anyone at all?"

The man was bewildered and ashamed. This is an example of why Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

Are you in a happy mood? Or are you one of those people who wake up in apprehension of what the day might bring? We tend to forget that our thoughts lead us to feel a certain way…this makes us behave in a certain way…and that leads to the habits we adopt…the decisions we make …the actions we take….inevitably the results we get spring from the thoughts we had in the first place…… So the big question is what thoughts are you thinking? I love the quote….”Step aside from all thinking and there is nowhere you cannot go”. if we would just remember that we are not our thoughts…our thoughts come and go as they please..if we would just stand aside and observe them…not judging whether they are good or bad..just acknowledging them and not letting them influence the decisions we make….we would be free. Free to create the life we want….there would be no criticizing..complaining or condemning…..we would not wait for things to be right before we take action….we would understand that we are not inferior beings….we were born with the right to take control of our world. If we would just stop blaming others for our situation and understand that we are responsible for everything that happens to us …through us…and by us….life would just be great. So take control of your thoughts…if you don’t …you suffer……suffering is optional….You have the freedom to choose what you want to think. We have been misled to believe that we have no control over what happens to us…Wrong!!!! every single moment of the day we have the ability to choose how we want to think…feel…behave and act. Its only fear that stops us…fear of taking risks…fear of failure…fear of what others might think.. Epictectus said…We are disturbed not by what happens to us…but by our thoughts about what happens to us. So let go! Choose what we want to create and then watch it happen. Hi Friends
when you wake up in the morning what mood are you in? Are you in a happy mood?
Or are you one of those people who wake up in apprehension of what the day might bring? We tend to forget that our thoughts lead us to feel a certain way…this makes us behave in a certain way…and that leads to the habits we adopt…the decisions we make …the actions we take….inevitably the results we get spring from the thoughts we had in the first place……
So the big question is what thoughts are you thinking?
I love the quote….”Step aside from all thinking and there is nowhere you cannot go”. if we would just remember that we are not our thoughts…our thoughts come and go as they please..if we would just stand aside and observe them…not judging whether they are good or bad..just acknowledging them and not letting them influence the decisions we make….we would be free.

Let’s talk about hope.

Here is my observation: There are two kinds of people – the ones who bring hope and the ones who live in it. Are you a creator who produces hope or one of many who just wish things could be different but does nothing to make it happen and just waits for circumstances to change?

Please do not misunderstand, hope is a good thing. It’s what makes people get up in the morning, believing that today may be the start of something beautiful. Without hope, life would be unbearable.

However, for the most part, people fail to understand that hope plays only a small role in one’s success. People think that hope entails waiting for people and circumstances to change in their favour. This is positive thinking at its worst. This misconception of hope turns life into a passive and senseless waiting game.

Hope Without Action

Hope without action takes you nowhere. Only action can bring results; thus, passive hoping can only lead to failed expectations, disappointment and further inactivity. What a lot of people don’t realize is the energy exerted on wishing and waiting for things we don’t have is ultimately wasted. People’s lives become stagnant and they are actually prevented from receiving what they hope for.

The sad thing about this is that people tend to romanticize the whole “hoping sans action” bit. People would create a dream for themselves and then simply waits for a sign from heaven. Of course, the sign doesn’t come so our dreamers either dreams up another wish to wait on or just give up the ghost altogether.

This kind of hoping can be a dead end. “Hoping for the best” is a sugarcoat for “There’s nothing you can do”, which is unacceptable. I do believe that we can only “hope for the best” if we have already done our best. Do not merely play the waiting game.

Waiting has become a way of life for most of us. We are conditioned to wait – we wait in line at the grocery, for the red light to go green, for the next train, for the approval of authorities, and so on. Most people still wait – in false hope – that things will finally change for the better.

Hope And Being Powerless

A person who just sits on hope is often powerless. The tendency is to offer up an excuse and pin everything on circumstance. There is a sense of being powerless due to the situation. We resist doing our best in such situations knowing that we may be subjected to failure. As a result, we depend on hope simply because it is easier. We give up our own power and then blame situations and other people if our hopes don’t pan out.

When we declare statements like, “I believe my fate is in God’s hands”, “The odds are against me”, “I have no choice; there is nothing I can do”, we are making ourselves believe in uncertainty. The statements above are nothing but assumptions. Assumptions are indefinite, vague and unproven. It would be very unwise not to do something and just wait or hope based on an incorrect assumption.

Businessmen speak a lot about a return on investment. They gamble, weigh the odds, the profit and loss. As many would agree, the successful ones are those who have seen potential in businesses that most people are likely to overlook. If we use the same concept in our lives, look past the assumptions that scare us from moving forward, then we can make a profitable life. If we act on anything we want regardless of the odds, then we don’t have to look back with questions, even if we failed or succeeded at it.

There is certainly nothing wrong with having hope and expectations. Nevertheless, if hope stops us from acting and living in the moment then that is a losing proposition.

Do you consistently set goals for yourself that you then fail to achieve? The reason is that you only put in the requisite amount of effort needed to achieve your goal, not exceed it. If your goal is to lose 5lbs by next month, you need to plan a diet and exercise regime that will ensure you lose 10lbs. Put in more time and effort and you will see better results.

Sounds like a lot of work? That’s because it is! The path to success is never easy. Don’t underestimate the amount of work required to achieve a goal. But increasing your effort makes it that much more certain that you will reach your target.

Take any given situation and you will find that it takes two times as much effort just to stay afloat. Be it your marriage, parenting, weight loss, or business – everything requires two times as much effort! The point is that things may not necessarily be as easy as you thought. If you thought you had to put in three hours of effort a day, put in six. Plan for more.

For instance, during my first year in University, my goal was to get straight A's in Anatomy. I knew I was not the best student and would have to put in some effort to reach my goal. I thought two hour of study a day should cover it. But instead, I put in four hours of study – Monday to Friday. I knew I had only one chance so I doubled my efforts. The result? Straight A's. It was hard, but it was worth it. Till today in everything I do, I am reminded that I have to double my effort in order to succeed.

One thing is certain – anything that’s worth achieving is bound to be a challenge. If it isn’t, it probably isn’t worthwhile. The road to success is strewn with chaos. And if you find yourself on a smooth ride, then you’re probably not putting in the right amount of effort. Attaining success is no joy ride; it’s a roller coaster.

Just make sure you devise a plan that enables you to put in twice as much effort. If you do, you double your chances of succeeding.

That’s all I have to say. And make sure you double your efforts for today.

As always, you are welcome to leave your comments below.

I wish you well

For example, if you want to start jogging every morning, tell yourself it’s just for 21 days. At the end of that period, you have a choice of continuing or quitting. At least, that’s what you think. The truth is that there is no choice. Your neural pathways have already been formed and you will, in all likelihood, continue your new habit. Furthermore, you would have noticed the benefits of what you have been doing for the past 21 days. Therefore, deep down, your subconscious would want you to continue.

You might think the reverse is also true – breaking a habit. Unfortunately, neural pathways to any habit are usually formed for life. So even if you quit (say, smoking) temporarily, any little thing can act as a trigger and make you start again.

However, the way you go about quitting just needs a small tweak to ensure it works. Do the same thing you did while starting a habit – tell yourself that it’s just for 21 days. Then you will find it much easier to continue for life. But if you start off by telling yourself you are going to quit smoking permanently, your conscious mind will be at war with you. And in the war for supremacy, your conscious mind will win.

It may sound strange to keep saying that you should convince yourself in this way and not in that way, and so on. But in reality, having a conversation with yourself is not that strange or abnormal. We all do it everyday. Think about it: “should I go to the gym today, or should I not?” Sound familiar? That’s you talking to yourself.

Normally, when you want to begin a new routine (or habit) or quit an old one, you would tell yourself that you are giving it up permanently. That’s when your fickle mind starts highlighting all the good things about that habit. Continuing with the example of smoking, your mind would cause you to remember all the situations in which you enjoy smoking: early in the morning while reading the newspaper, while having a drink with friends, when you’re facing some pressure at work, and so on. Your mind does not yet know the benefits of not smoking, so it can only highlight the pleasures that smoking supposedly brings you. This is why it is important to trick yourself into believing that you’re only stopping for 21 days.

Here’s a list of habits I’d like to start for 21 days.
-	Stop worrying for 21 days
-	Meditate for 21 days
-	Write new articles daily for 21 days
-	Get up by 5am for 21 days
-	Drink a vegetable juice for 21 days

Feel free to share your list of 21-day habits.

A friend of mine asked me to re-post this article. I wrote it several years ago.

In times of Change the learners will inherit the earth, while the learned will find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists. -Eric Hoffer

That statement holds true today as it did so many years ago. We have to learn how to use our god given talents… otherwise we stand to lose them . Remember the saying "Use it or lose it?"

How many of you feel that you are not good at Math? How many of you feel that you are not good at Music? How about Art?

Research shows that most people feel that they perform pretty horribly in these fields.

The real truth of the matter is that they are so wrong. We were all Born geniuses!

Yes every single one of us has genius potential.

We come into this world utterly naked and helpless equipped with a brain that is seeking knowledge.

What happens is that our well intentioned Parents and then our caring teachers help to systematically reduce our genius capability.

By the time we reach the 5th grade….our genius capability is practically zero.

  How does this happen?

We are told "Don't do that, you could hurt yourself"," Don't do that until I tell you what to do", "Sit still", "Stop day dreaming", "Pay attention".

Parents Protect, Teachers teach us how to conform. We are not supposed to make mistakes. Conformity assures that we produce mediocre citizens. Why?

Because genius needs to do its own thinking and exploring. Always asking the question Why? Peeling off even deeper layers with the question why? Making our own mistakes along the way. Learning from our own mistakes

To live at our full potential, we have to relearn how we learn.

The Reptilian complex of the brain is responsible for physical safety, the Mammalian complex is responsible for emotional safety. If both of these are repressed due to stress or other factors learning is suppressed.

Furthermore, We have the left brain that is responsible for logical and analytical issues and the right brain responsible for holistic thought and creativity.

Then we have the conscious mind and the unconscious mind or other than conscious mind. The other than conscious mind processes information at a ratio of 10 Billion bits of data to 1. Compare that to 12 inches of the conscious mind versus 11 square miles of the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is where our intuitive and creative insights come from.

Go even further and we have the multiple intelligences, some of us are mathematical logical, verbal linguistic, visual-spatial, interpersonal, intra personal, musical, naturalistic, bodily-kinesthetic.

We are mostly taught using mathematical logical and verbal linguistic models.

In most countries the other intelligences are taken for granted. This is the reason why we have late bloomers in life.

Add the 5 senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell to this and the learning process is complete.

School dropouts are a perfect study. if they leave school with their self-esteem still intact, they tend to become more successful than others because they have not conformed. Good examples are Bill Gates and Richard Branson.

We need to use our whole brain. The interplay of all these factors to facilitate whole brain learning. that is what Genius is made of. It is like an orchestra with all the parts playing to become whole.

Remember the brain thinks in pictures not in words.

When we say 'think of a car' You immediately visualize a car of your liking. You don't see the words car. We have been trained to read linearly from left to right and from the top of the page to the bottom. The subconscious mind can take pictures of the whole page. The brain thinks from whole to parts.

This is why learning strategies like Mind mapping, Memory recall techniques,Cornell note taking, speed reading and photo reading( reading at over 25,000 words per minute) are ways to stimulate raw genius.

Repetition and Practice are the Mother and Father of all skills.

To unlock our genius potential we have to think in ways that are absolutely contrary to how we have been programmed to think so far.

I wish you well,
